The move is a natural one due to the synergies that already exist between BigLift Shipping and Spliethoff. The joint office in Japan will offer a wide range of vessels to suit the transportation requirements of potential clients, the companies said in a joint statement.

Spliethoff operates a fleet of over 50 multipurpose vessels, ranging from 12,000 to 23,000 DWT, with cargo cranes with capacities up to 1,400 tonnes in tandem lift. Within the Spliethoff group of companies, BigLift Shipping handles all heavy, over-sized and special cargoes for their long-standing clients in, amongst others, the oil & gas, port, mining and power generating industries. BigLift Shipping adds a fleet of heavy lift vessels with lifting capacities of up to 2,200 mt, while the company’s heavy transport vessels with RoRo capabilities increase shipping capabilities to about 16,000 mt.
