You can obtain clay blocks with a silk touch tool, preferably a shovel. Those blocks are generated in bodies of water throughout Minecraft biomes. The places where you should first look for clay are the swamps and also lush caves, as they are covered with clay blocks. No, it’s not possible to make terracotta bricks. Currently, it’s not even possible to make terracotta slabs and stairs, but if they get introduced, terracotta bricks have a chance to get added as well.
Yes, you could farm terracotta, but it can be quite time-consuming to make all the farm pieces. First, you’d need a moss farm to produce moss blocks. Then, when you grow giant spruce trees on top of moss, those blocks will turn into podzol, which you can use a hoe on to turn into farmland. If the farmland is not hydrated, it’ll turn into dirt. You can then build a dirt into mud convertor, which will produce mud that you can then place over pointed dripstone to dry it. After that, the mud will turn into clay that you can smelt in a furnace to get terracotta. This is not a completely automatic process, but it will allow you to create terracotta out of basically nothing.
