"We're always looking for opportunities to grow and expand our bread and butter (manufacturing)," said John Bartley, president of Ohio Gratings about the purchase of Precision. "Expanding to more than just our core products makes for good business."

Precision Component Industries (PCI), a machine shop specializes in high-precision products for aviation, automotive, military and space-exploration markets. It will continue to operate as a separate entity but under Ohio Gratings' banner.

Grates produced by Ohio Gratings, 5299 Southway St. SW, are used in road construction for storm drains and gutters, as well as architectural design and industrial shelving and flooring. Carbon steel and aluminum are used to make the bulk of products sold.

Ohio Edison, Commonwealth Edison of Chicago and Consolidated Edison of New York are larger corporate customers of Ohio Gratings, Bartley said.

Ohio Gratings and Precision Component Industries are seeking to fill more than 100 open positions. Positions are available in operations, skilled labor and machining, engineering, marketing and sales support, demand planning and manufacturing leadership.

Applicants can apply online at www.ohiogratings.com/careers.

Many positions have a sign-on bonus of $2,000 for new hires, according to Kevin Miller, vice president of business development for Ohio Gratings. Salary for new workers range from $17 per hour to $21 an hour, he said, depending on experience and the position being sought.

Ohio Gratings was founded in 1970 by Harold Bartley and his son, David W. Bartley Sr. John Bartley is a third generation business official.

With the addition of PCI, Ohio Gratings has grown to more than 500 employees in Stark County. Dozens of workers are local vocational school students, and many have stayed on full-time.
